Paul, List,

For those instances I use a balance rail cloth punching (five  
different thicknesses to chose from) folded in half, or a front rail  
punching (five different thicknesses to chose from) not folded in half  
to mute the newly replaced string, whichever fits best and is not  
likely to get knocked out.
