I once went out for a paid appraisal on an old upright. The piano was being sold by a woman who was storing it in her brother's garage. When I arrived, my customer was not there. The brother told me he saw rust on the tuning pins, so he had just doused them with WD-40. They were nearly dripping wet with the stuff. I tried a couple of pins which showed signs of loosening up massively. I had to tell him he had just ruined the piano beyond repair.

The customer didn't show up for another forty-five minutes, during which time I had to watch this guy's misery written all over his face. I didn't recommend the purchase.

Strange but true a man called for me to tune his old upright, he said he tried ,but the pins were so tight he decided to use sewing machine oil to loosen them up! How would you all answer the man?
