[pianotech] Key Bushing Job

Don’t miss this http://www.spurlocktools.com/id57_hot_hide_glue.htm

I did my first keybushing job last month and it was a great success, thanks
in good part to this home-made glue pot.

We used first sizing cauls overnight, then one side after the other.

I had taken one pin from each balance and front rails with me to check. I
would not have done without.

(took us about 40 hours of thinking, measuring, doing, undoing one side
etc
next time, it will be MUCH better.)

Good success!

The piano is an upright.

Yes, I received the cauls in the mail today of the appropriate size. Not to
mention my very own set of key clamps!

I will also be doing my first attempt at hot hide glue
<http://mail.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/04.gif> .

I was asking about the key frame in case there was a way to check my bushing
work. But it sounds like I won't be able to since the action won't be there
so I can check the tightness of the balance rail bushings.

Not "absolutely" necessary, but if it's a grand, take the keyframe to
yr shop. That way you can do a perfect key easing (if the rebushing
wasn't 110% perfect, which is seldom the case) in the shop, rather
than in front of the impatient customer.
You do have Spurlock (or brass or aluminum) Cauls of the appropriate
thickness?
