While being a fellow iPhone user, "oh it's tax deductible" doesn't mean it's "free", but rather that it is, in the end, less costly according to whatever our tax rate happens to be (maybe 20-25%?). I try to buy my otherwise "top drawer"/expensive hardware from the online Apple Store's "refurbished" section at a discount (12 to 28%). I bought a refurbished 1st generation iPhone from ATT&T about 18 months ago, for $150 less than new. This model uses Edge rather than 3G technology, and is $30 less per month than the much speedier 3G network.
