In addition to regulating each individual damper, did you check that all the dampers are adjusted properly on the damper lifter tray. It sounds  like perhaps some of the dampers might not have enough follow through, (They're just barely sitting on the strings). and what you're hearing is a sympathetic vibration coming from a note an octave or octave and a fifth below the note you're trying to dampen.

I am working on an old Haines Bros. 5’ grand with lots of issues, including significant cracks in the soundboard, but I don’t have a clue why the sound is ringing on. I have regulated the dampers, which apparently were replaced a few years back, but even when I put my hand down on the strings I can’t stop the sound. Any ideas?
