At least in our southern California area it is common to see uprights with what looks like almost 1/4 inch of crown, plus the keys up far too high and with inadequate sharp height. Apparently someone got it into their heads in the 80s that pianos needed lots of "crown" and a lot of uprights were done that way. If you sight down a worn set of keys the key line is hardly a smooth downward curve. There are better ways to get adequate dip in a set of shallow upright keys than over-raising the keys (shimming the balance rail comes to mind). B. Hebert
