[pianotech] Young Chang Action brackets

Are you sure you got what you need? Last set I did when I got to the
customer's house I discovered I didn't: wrong brackets and not enough of
them and no screws. 

 

There are 3 sizes of brackets. The end brackets are all the same. You need 2
of them. The middle brackets come in two different foot lengths and you need
3 of them. I had no end brackets and 2 of each size of middle bracket.
Fortunately I had enough extras so I was able to do the job anyway as I was
150 miles from home. 

 

So here is some more information to store away in your Young Chang action
bracket file (I actually have all this stuff in my Young Chang Outlook
record).

Foot length of brackets

End bracket: a little over 8 inches

Long middle bracket: 6 5/8 inches

Short middle bracket: 5 3/4 inches

 

Also, you are going to need longer screws. Sometimes they send them,
sometimes they don't. The original is about a #7x5/8. I would recommend a
Phillips pan head #8x1.25 machine screw. It works just fine. Reuse the
original washers. 

 

Remember, whichever model you are working on will have all middle brackets
of the same length, either short or long. And all the end brackets are the
same regardless of the model. If worse comes to worse, you can make
modifications to utilize any bracket in most any position. But I wouldn't
recommend it if you can at all avoid it. 

 

I've ordered brackets before and the guy wasn't sure if the model in
question had long or short middle brackets. And this last time the order was
completely screwed up. So it might be helpful if you measured first and then
told him exactly what you needed (e.g., I need two 8 inch end brackets,
three 5 3/4 short middle brackets).
