You could do that and give your money to fat insurance company executives.
Or you could find people in need and send them your "insurance" payment
while plugging yourself into the community and helping out wherever you can.
Whatever a man sows that will he also reap. Cast your bread on the water and
it will come back to you. 

That which mitigates our uncertainty of the future is the true deity that we
worship. And recent history should tell us that insurance companies are not
the most infallible of deities.
