[pianotech] Hammer Line Issue

Matthew,

Good work continuing to add to your "vast knowledge of pianos" *grin*(nice
website by the way!)

Don Manino pointed out in a recent class on vertical regulating that on
Kawais you don't want any perceivable lost motion. The hammers should
slightly follow the rest rail when you pull back on it, but the hammer and
key should seem to move simultaneously.

Another thing that can contribute to bobbling hammers is damper return
springs that are set too strong and/or early. Also I've occasionally
eliminated bobbling when everything else seem correct by going over the back
checks and catcher leather lightly with some rough sandpaper.
