"Piano. Evolution, Design and Performance". David Crombie Balafon Books
1995 (This is a British Edition, ISBN 1-871547-99-7).  Profusely
illustrated with colour photographs. Probably the best source for
photographs of pianos of all types at all stages in the history of the
instrument

The Piano. Its Story, from Zither to Grand. David S. Grover. Hale.
ISBN 0 7091 5673 1  1970s book with line drawing and black and white
plates, by British piano maker; David Grover was owner of Bentley pianos. 
Nicely written. Useful selection of historical black and white photos and
drawings.

"The Piano. A History. Revised Edition". Cyril Erlich. Clarendon press,
1990 ISBN 0 19 816171 9
Good treatise on the industry, especially in the UK, with tables of
figures. Very well-researched and scholarly book with excellent index. A
few black and white plates.

"The Piano-Forte. Its History Traced To The Great Exhibition of 1851"
Rosamunde E.<. Harding 1978 Now published by Heckscher & Company, London.
Another schoilarly work, with charts, tables, line drawings.

"Pianos And Their Makers" Alfred Dolge 1911 Now published by Dover press.
ISBN 0 486 22856 8 This is now a work of historical interest in itself,
being almost a century old, and written at a time that was perhaps the
heyday of the modern piano. Lots of information about manufacturers, and
technical aspects.
