Hello list,
I have a customer who is interested in having his piano restored.
The piano is a good quality overstrung/underdamped german upright, and is very early 20th century. He is keen to keep all the original parts and is unsure about restringing. He likes the sound of the piano and is getting it ready for the next xxx amount of years.

His questions to me were
1. How long do piano strings last?"
2. What strings do steinway use
3. Will the new strings be as good as the old ones

In my opinion the tone is okay but the strings are 100years old and I think a restring would improve it quite a bit.

My questions are

1. Do Steinways use Roslau
2. What is best Plated/non plated strings
3. Tonally, what is the lifespan of piano strings
4. Who do you recommend for QUALITY hammer recovering (I'm in uk)

Thanks in advance for your answers
