1. No pin # if you choose to pay as a credit card. If they ask, credit or debit, I say credit then sign the credit card transaction. 2. True, it gets taken out immediately in most cases. I wanted to pay for it anyway. Many gas stations only take out $1 for 2 days then it finally goes through. 3. Never had problem with that either. It goes either way. Cash is fine, I can just as easily put it back myself as I make 2 or 3 trips a week to the bank for deposits anyway. A debit card uses a pin #. A cc does not. 2. When you use your card as debit, the money gets taken out of your account that instant. Running it as a cc, it can take as many as two to three days for the money to get withdrawn. 3. If you need to return something that was run as debit, I know most businesses cannot put the funds back on the card, they give you cash back. If it was run as cc, they can. At least in the USA anyway. A debit card works exactly like a credit card. If I go into Home Depot for example, I run my debit card just like a credit card. When I reserve a hotel online of via the telephone, I use my debit card as a credit card. When I flew to Germany and Japan in 2006 and 2007 I reserved my plane flight etc., using my debit card as a credit card. You simply have to have the bank allow it to be run both ways as either a debit or credit transaction. I've never had any problems at all. I just received my bill but haven't looked at it yet. I follow Dave Ramsey's advice. I don't charge. I pay cash for everything. I save money for what I want or need. I use a debt card for all transactions and if I don't have the money, I just say no and don't do it. I just bought another car and paid cash for it. Anything is possible but, a strict budget must be followed and adhered too. That's my opinion anyway.
