[pianotech] pay as you go

Well, OK, you got me there Frank. It is easier to some degree with a credit card in that regard. I had a dispute recently with the bank and with Blue Cross Blue Shield. BCBS deducted my health insurance twice instead of once in one day and in this case, it over drew my account. I covered the over draft charges, billed Blue Cross for them and received a check in the mail from BCBS in about 2 weeks for the double whammy they gave me. Then, I stopped them from the auto deduct they were doing. Screw me once and I pay you via check from now on.

I guess my whole point is that people are to far to many people in debt from charging. Most people that use credit cards verses debit cards, tend to charge more, this is a fact. Are there possible benefits or ramafications from one verses the other? No doubt however, if we are going to pay for it regardless, why not pay cash? The credit card industry has made many of us believe that we "simply cannot live without them. That we need credit." We do? Really?

For 15 years, I've done debit card. The one or two individual problems I've encountered over the years far outweights and still saves me money in the long term because 1. I look more closesly at what I am spending. 2. The money must be there at the time of purchase therefore, it is paid for at that time. I do not have to find the money to pay for it later. 3. Over the long haul, I pay less and I don't have an 18 % credit card payment each month and 4. When I did have a problem with it, the bank did go to bat for me as well sending it in as a dispute as something I had not actually charged or paid for. In both of those cases, I received a refund from my bank. It just took a while longer than a credit card is all.

Also, I recommend going to Life Lock to protect ourselves against identity theft. Were something to happen, they will cover you up to 1 million dollars at their own expense and will work on correcting the problem the day we call in. Everything gets locked down as of that moment so nothing more can be stolen from us. I had a friend have this happen and it really does work.

If a person must use credit cards, just use the wisest judgement. This whole country is in a pickle because of over extended people. Many people that I know, do not use wise judgment when charging and are now so far in debt, they cannot crawl out of the hole they dug themselves into because of it.

At the point of sale, they are functionally the same; the future
implications are not the same. In the USA, you have greater protections,
under the law, with credit card transactions, than with debit cards, with
respect to "misrepresentation of the product or service", fraud, or identity
theft. With a debit card transaction, the money comes out of your account
almost immediately. With a credit card transaction, there is time to
dispute transactions before they are irrevocably complete. Fraudulent use
of a debit card can wipe you out in minutes! There are greater protections
with credit cards, giving you more time to deal with fraud, and other such
issues.
