Marshall,
The book is "A guide to restringing " by John Travis but I don't think this scale will be there. Measuring the other string in the unison as was posted earlier is your best bet, but I'm not sure how easy this might be for you with your visual impairment.
I have access to quite a few of these pianos .If you give me the string # I'll check your serial # against some of these and if the age is close I will measure the string and get the info to you. Also measure the height from the floor to the top of the lid. I'm guessing it will be 45" and that will give us the model.
Count the strings from the lowest up to the missing one and give me the number. Forget what note .Just the string # and the serial # of the piano. Your piano was built in 1954 and I'll look for a like vintage model.
Between all of us we will get you there. It takes a village my Bro.

  William and Dave,
Thanks for the helpful advice. stupid questio I hve is, where do I find the model number? :-) Also I'm reminded of a book we were told about that lists different string scale designs, but I cannot recall who write it nor its title. This book lists scales for numerous older pianos etc. I know the school has one I believe so I may call over there nd ask them to check into it as well. I sure appreciate your help. I hope I can see you guy s in person eventually so I can thank you in person.
  Marshall
