 Les,

I think the gated community is becoming more prevalent in ALL metro areas and outskirts. We have alot of them around here, but none where I've been required to show my driver's license to security guards at the gate. Most of the time, they've been forewarned of my arrival so I just say where I'm going and they open the gate. I've gotten kind of used to it, but it does point out the great economic divide....

As you've found too, there is a huge range of instruments in these chateaux. I tune a 70s Acrosonic with the plastic grommets in one of these places.* I also tune a Seiler grand, multiple Kawais, Yamahas, Steinways, etc.

It's a different world, ain't it? Each mansion creates its own weather patterns.

*I couldn't resist the Acrosonic/Grommet almost-rhyme....

I knew a lady with a Nasty Acrosonic,
With a funky drop action and breaking plastic grommets,
I tried to tell her that it couldn't be tuned,
What I really shoulda said is that it needs be harpooned.

Dave

Gated communities are becoming more prevalent in the Houston area, and many requirepictures of driver’s license to gain entrance, even though owners shouldhave called the gate for immediate, unhindered interest. Customers havedenied the assumption that everyone who tries to get in is a potential criminaland so must be thoroughly investigated before they (the honest people) areallowed in to these wealthy homes. Once in, I find about an equal distributionof things from Steinway B’s to Winter spinets. Does anyone besides mefind this a slap in the face of honest business persons? I did three times inquire as to why on earththey had such an inadequate instrument in such a dwelling………………… Within about a year they each called me to tune either their new Steinways or Petrofs….. But I really do find this “criminal intent” assumption to be reallybothersome
