Todd:

Learn by doing, indeed.  Use your eyes and your brain.  That’s what they are there for.  Think.  Think again.  Be actively curious.  Make mistakes.  You’ll never learn anything if you don’t make mistakes.  Then learn from them.   Make it a point of pride for yourself to solve problems on your own.  If you can’t do that, you are not cut out for this work.

Do you attend regularly attend Guild meetings?  Do you go to seminars?  Have you considered one of the piano technical schools?  If you don’t do any of these, why not?

The forum is a great technical resource where many people give freely and generously of their time to anyone who asks.  Don’t abuse the kindness of others by overuse.  Use the forum as a source of last resort rather than first.

Removing it isn't any different than removing any other action.

Replace the bridle straps.

If they don't want to spend the money for the bridle strap job, you can still put the action back in. Just don't put it all the way to the posts. Then. with the action still slightly tilted back, trip each jack under the respective butt. Screw to the posts.

It still isn't magic. Learn by doing.

Hi all,

I will be removing an action on a wurlitzer console soon.  The bridle straps are all broken.  What is the proper way to remove the action in this situation?  A spinet comes to mind....same idea for removal?
