If you?put the iron on the strike point?of the hammer, it will cover an area from about 1-11, which should be sufficient.?You might need to bring it around a little on the smaller hammers.

So?I should?steam only at the strike point??

Or do you also so some steaming at 10 & 2 o'clock, or even lower in the shoulder, 

to give more "give" in the overall hammer when striking the string?
