I remember seeing (in the 70s) footage of the Kenyan government burning a pile of illegal ivory bigger than a large 2 story house. Boy, they really "taught those guys a lesson"... It actually made the price of ivory soar on the black market (supply/demand) and put poachers in business big time. If they (the government) had simply sold the ivory and put all proceeds towards elephant conservation projects the price of ivory would have gone down and the saturation would make it NOT as profitable for the illegal trade. Might have saved a few of the big fellows too. Jim Busby
