The pitch level for French pianos was lower than those in Germany and Europe, hence the term "French pitch".

I would not raise this piano to A440.  If it is carrying the original stringing, i.e. was never reworked for A440, I would most definitely keep it at A430 or A435 at the highest.

Always try to match materials as best to the originals as you can manage.  Use the rest of the instrument to guide you.  It is CLOSE to modern specs, but not exactly.  Open your eyes and mind, and let the piano teach you.
