[pianotech] X-Ratcheting Counter Bearing Shim

The other thing that Jon might consider is placing the half rounds on top of
the felt rather than on the plate behind the felt. That would raise the
strings completely off the felt. You might not need as tall a piece of
brass either. While prying the wire up might be difficult it's not such a
long section that letting down the tension would be burdensome in order to
facilitate inserting the half rounds.

Good to hear from you Mr. Overs. It's amazing how proper lighting can
smooth out those little blemishes. <G>

David and all,

We change the counterbearing arrangement
similarly. I also regard it as important to have
enough free string length segment on the
tuning-pin side of the agraffe - 20 mm works out
to be about the optimum (we have done tests
in-house to establish this). Certainly, those
pianos from makers who insist on running the
counterbearing felt very close to the agraffe,
tend not to speak quite as well as they otherwise
would.

Good to see that nicely prepared plate, David.
