Hi Don, Actually, I had wondered about the option of a humidifier & humidistat only. In this case, I believe lack of humidity is the bigger problem. Outdoor temperatures are from +44 to -40 C. No undercover, no control. Back covers for uprights help as well. Improvement over no cover on an upright is a factor of 4 (1 cent per year on a good piano), and improvement on a grand is a factor of 10 (4 cents per year on a good piano). The idea of humidity control is to allow the client to save money that can be spent on regulation and other maintenance. What is the wattage on the diskclavier? Could a case be made for a bottom cover and humidifier only?
