Jack: Judgein by the color of the fuzz, my guess is that the buckskin (or whatever it is) on the catcher is of an inferior grade and is being worn of by impact from the backcheck. I see a similar situation sometimes in some Baldwin pianos, except that in those cases its the backcheck felt that gets worn off and leaves a colored residue. Patrick C.
