Traditional Steinway set up (and others) in the treble can be as short as 20 - 25 mm. Similarly in the low bass or even less when you consider the bass string looping doubles the thickness and flexibility at the hitch. That's pretty short. With the installation of vertical hitches in the treble you can easily double that and with a repositioning of the bass bridge or a shortening of the cantilever you can do the same or better.
