0.4 inches is 10.16 mm., so isn't that within your range?  Anyway the 
proper touch depth for a 47 mm. blow is whatever will bring the jack 
back just clear of the roller and not pressed into the slap felt. 
Numbers are no use at all if they don't produce the proper behaviour.
