Question John.  Do you call the right pedal (clients term) a damper pedal, or a sustain pedal?  Or something else?



Steinway calls it " Pedal - Right Brass".   I think "we" have called it either sustain or damper.

I usually refer to it as the damper stop rail. It is a rail, and stops the damper from going up. "Upstop" seems sort of redundant.


Maybe if we wanted to be more persnickety about it, how about the wooden felt-lined damper underlever upward motion inhibitor kinetic energy reverser?
