[pianotech] Smoke Damage Piano - what's the latest

Hi folks. Going to look at a smoke damaged piano today. Don't know
much about it at this point. I don't have much experience with these,
other than reading about them a bit.

I'm generally aware of potential/likely damage to strings and
pinblock, glue joints in general (I suppose depending on heat
exposure), soundboard (heat, moisture, etc.)

I think my real question is the sooty smell. I know this has been
addressed ad nauseam on this list, but I don't recall ever really
reading anything definitive on the subject - and perhaps there isn't
anything. I know of Dave Schwartz in MN - I know you can ship a piano
to him and he will work his magic, but does he have anything to offer
than I can do locally?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Terry Farrell
