I should think a wedge against the middle of the soundboard would do nothing other than kill volume and sustain. Yes it would make it stiffer - but by binding the soundboard to the brace underneath, you are basically gluing the soundboard to a small length of rim - in the middle of the soundboard! Yes, stiffness in a panel will increase sustain, but I think only if the stiffer panel is able to vibrate freely - and a wedge in the middle of it will pretty much kill that I should think!
