Larry, Flitz works very well to shine up a brass fallboard inlay. No damage to the surrounding poly that I can see, as long as you are not too aggressive with the polish.

I’ve used plastic polish to rejuvenate brass inlay. The surrounding poly ends up being just as shiny as new. Some brand names would be Novus #2, Mirror Glaze #5, Maguire’s #7. The last one is easily found at auto parts places and I butchered the spelling. Buffing compound works but you may have to finish with a finer grit for a scratch free result. As I recall, polishing compound isn’t as fine a grit. Toothpaste has worked in a pinch. Koenig makes some products that work quite well.
