“I have them dumped in to a ptg.org mail list folder that I created, so it's really easy for me to click the folder and read the new posts. Click reply, to reply and off we go. With the myptg site, I must login, find the right discussion group, etc. etc.....too much hassle.” Richard, my dear colleague, as with any new software there’s a bit of a learning curve. For me, with the new system, I receive the email with all the posts and click on the discussion I want to follow fast forwarding my way through the submissions for the day. With this olde system, I wade through all the posts (digest form) and have to scan across lots of unwanted verbage to get to the post I’m interested in. Setting this new system up wasn’t that much for me to get through and I don’t really understand where the problems with it all are. I’ve been enjoying the new system with little discomfort. I get an email notification of a collection of discussions and upon clicking on it, my computer automatically accesses with out the use of passwords or other gate keepers. I can click on the posts that I want to peek at or click on some of the other convenient links to make my moments of knowledge gathering and sharing far better spent. Posting images has been a bit easier as well and we all know, images makes for a better exchange. My take on having two locations to post things is simply summarized with a word ........ fragmentation. Another word that works ............ duplication. The recent and interesting post on the lyre post and tenon joint has been duplicated on both lists. Yes, I scanned over the second viewing and only moments of my life were spent doing so, but ........... how many stop lights would you like to eliminate out of your day?? I’d be happy to see things move forward and progress into the modern media format. There’s a certain amount of this sort of thing we’ll all have to learn to accept. As I type this I’m reminded of how long it took me to learn MS ACCESS 07 from ACCESS 97. Yep, that took a while but it was well worth it. I kept thinking that a 10 year old would probably have mastered the program far faster than I ever will. I do wish. however, that all the posts on this forum were a little more on a professional level with less backbiting and harsh words. If we want this to be an honorable profession, we need to start acting like it amongst our collegues. Thanks to those who keep to piano business, asking questions and responding appropriately. That's what it's all about. This is a real, (or can be if used properly), a real educational benefit to many up-and-coming techs, as well as a place for those with more experience to share their insights and helps. Richard W. Bushey I couldn’t agree with you more and thanks for saying so. I’ll suggest we all submit our dislikes on the old vs. new list and use it as an exercise in BEING NICE ABOUT IT!! lar -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
