Hi Al, It's impossible to tell for sure from the photos. I don't claim to be a top expert, but my BS is in forestry and I had several wood technology classes. The first could be either mahogany or rosewood. Just can't tell for sure. My bet would be on rosewood - but like I say, can't be sure. The second piano is truly impossible to tell. Obviously it is a ring- porous hardwood. But that could mean oak, ash, walnut, butternut, hickory, etc., etc. It's just really hard to tell from the photo. I just looked at it again - heck, it could even be luan mahogany (not true mahogany - cheap stuff from indonesia). Need some good high-res photos to even narrow it down.
