David, You're yanking my cord...right? To answer the first question: Because the contact area is NOT glued to the sticker. And, there is air between the felt and the wood, which makes for quieter. You find that principle used on back rails and many other applications. I'm suprised you did not know that.<G> As for the second question: I have not clue why other "old uprights" don't "clunk" a loud as this one, In question. The answer to that, probably, would be in the form of MANY answers, I suspect.<G> Kinda like "why does my VW bus get better gas mileage than your VW bus?"
