[pianotech] L & O question

A client has a Steinway grand, circa 1900. Plate's been painted, which covered the model and serial number. I did find what appears to be the serial number, in small black numbering, on the extreme treble section of the soundboard. #94726 seems to correspond to about 1900. It measures 5'10 and change, so I'm guessing it's a model "O"? I don't think L's were introduced until 1911, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, since the O & L are the same length, would a string cover for an L also fit the O, or are other differences in the cases?

Thanks in advance.
