Tom:

No, I’m a PC person (HP computer, Microsoft keyboard) and I never see that character in what I write, just in things I get from sources written a Mac. I had to copy and paste the from another document to display it. I am just curious.

It could be that your simple apostrophe is not recognized as a legitimate character by your printer, or is the character also showing up on your screen? Are you using a MAC keyboard or a third-party keyboard?

OK, I’m admitting that this is very OT but I have a question for Mac users and I don’t know any in my physical world.

Why is it that so often with documents created on a Mac that the simple apostrophe [ ‘ ] often shows up as [ ]?

OK, I’ll go away now.
