[pianotech] Polyester question

Hi, Chuck:
Don't worry about whether your solvent will harm the finish. Acetone works fine, maybe lacquer thinner, whatever. I've not met a solvent that would dissolve polyester. The finish may dull a little bit, but Cory's Hi Gloss polish, or any plastic polish will buff it up again. Just don't use anything gritty like Ajax (duh!) and you'll be fine.
What's with these bumpers that melt? Strange.

Subject: [pianotech] Polyester question

The patient is a 1980s Baldwin "classic". Black poly finish.

The rubber buttons on the fallboard and other case parts has melted and disintegrated. This has left behind what could be described as a goopy mess on the finish.

Any advice on the best way to clean this up would be appreciated.

Thanks all,

Chuck Becker
