[pianotech] Kawai K15 finish?

Hi. Barn:
I will depend upoon how deep the scratch is. I've not worked on a Kawai for some time, so I'm not sure exactly how this finish is applied. (Don? Help me out here!) If it is polyester, and the scratch is on the surface, you could try sanding and rebuffing. If it is too deep, you can "v" it out with a tool, and fill with polyester. Then sand flush and buff. If you're into the color layer, then it's another story. You can always just put some color in the scratch, bevel the edges, add polyester, sand and buff. You'll see it, but it'll be shiny. You can use your lacquer touchup kit, wax, whatever, and topcoat with laquer, but unless you spray the whole panel, you'll see where it was spotted in. There may be some guys on this list who could refinish the whole thing w/polyester.

Subject: [pianotech] Kawai K15 finish?

ahoy there!
a client of mine has a long scratch on the bottom panel of his mahogany-style finish'd Kawai K15.
a bit of research reveals that its not a cellulose finish as i'd imagined, but a polyester...
i plan to use acetone to blur the edges, and then just colour-fill with some wax, as i understand its not possible to touch-up small areas of polyester finish: ie, one must respray the whole panel.
is this true? any other hints or tips would be greatly appreciated...
thanks!
