In the book, Piano Tone Building, there is a reference to experimental pianos being built with "iron" soundboards. Apparently the biggest complaint was their weight. No mention was made-as I recall-about their sound. ddf Delwin D Fandrich Piano Design & Fabrication 6939 Foothill Court SW, Olympia, Washington 98512 USA Phone 360.515.0119 - Cell 360.388.6525 <mailto:del at fandrichpiano.com> del at fandrichpiano.com - <mailto:ddfandrich at gmail.com> ddfandrich at gmail.com From: pianotech-bounces at ptg.org [mailto:pianotech-bounces at ptg.org] On Behalf Of Terry Farrell Sent: Friday, June 08, 2012 9:21 AM To: pianotech at ptg.org Subject: Re: [pianotech] Funny craigs list advert. Steel soundboard! You beat me to it Wim. I was going to write: "What's so funny about that?" - and then there are glass soundboards, etc. Terry Farrell On Jun 7, 2012, at 2:36 PM, tnrwim at aol.com wrote: Although in this case the soundboard obviously is not made of steel, I did work on a piano with a steel soundboard. It was made in Sweden, and weighed a ton. After I fixed it, it sounded very similar to a steel drum band from the Caribbean. At one time I had the patent information on this piano. It was one of only two made. Wim -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
