Toyota Matrix.  I have the Pontiac version, 2003 with 180k on it.  GM 
not only pulled the plug on my car, they killed the entire Pontiac 
division.  But the Toyota is still being sold, and is no doubt better 
quality than the Pontiac anyway.  Rear seat and passenger seat fold down 
to a flat hard surface with tracks for hold downs.  Plenty of room for a 
grand action and lots of tools.  Mileage in the low to mid 30's.
