The scoring is done with an ETD. It was the ETD that determined the note was off in the first place; after the ETD determines that the note is off, then that note is checked with aural beat rates to verify the error; points are  deducted only after notes are scored as an error by the ETD _and_ that error can actually be heard by the examiners.
