Hi Dave
Thanks for the feedback.  I'm lucky to work in an academic setting where I have time to experiment!
I don't feel that I've reached "tuning nirvana" yet  ;-)    (though sometimes I get glimpses...)The evolution of the Verituner styles has been lots of trial and error.  Even the seemingly simple questions leadto a crazy amount of study - what makes a beautiful octave?  Sure, we can place the octave according to tests, or according to some sort of "whole sound" approach, but I don't think anyone has quantified  what combinationof beats or non beats really makes the best sounding octave match.  Then add the doubles, triples, quads...
Even if we get the A's just right, what other information could the machine use to adapt to scaling issues to get the notesbetween to match with their same letter names better?
Does the limited amount of setpoints available in the custom styles compromise the ability of the Verituner to match the piano?
I do know that seemingly insignificant differences in tunings are felt by a small portion of techs and owners - it keeps me questing...
Other techs have pointed out avenues that I had abandoned, that might still provide fruitful - so there are always more things to try.  
Oh, and I really like the software on the ipod touch - so easy to use and the response seems a bit better that other versions.

  I recently started using verituner running on iPad.

  The "tweaking" and customization of tunelab tunings  I have been speaking about to smooth out progressions, following string Scaling, and quirks in a given piano is now a whole different ball of wax.
   Verituner produces very very nice progressions of intervals compensating as required to what is actually there. The negotiation is now with the choices of weighing and blending partial mixes to achieve ideal expansion for my perception/preferences.  I am trying the mixes you have suggested on the verituner discussion group. I'm really enjoying the verituner, giving me some excellent tunings. Still tweaking styles for different size/style pianos. 

     Verituner does indeed produce an aural style tuning, very accurate, very smooth, that can 
Be customized.  I love the iPad format also.

       Thanks for having shared your experience with tweaking partial weights. 
        Does that continue to evolve, or have you settled on what works for you best on any given piano in this regard.
