P.S. And another good reason for the development of synthetic wool for piano use (besides the serious effect of humidity on hammer tone with sheep's wool) is "touch". Sheep's wool probably expands when humid, affecting touch via increased friction on contact points ( and encouraged swelling of adjacent wooden parts) and also via increased hammer weight.
