First things first.
1. Check touch weight, up and down and average the two to get balance
weight. If lower than 35 there is your problem.
2. Check hammer and wippen post pinning. The hammer should swing no
more than seven time (from horizontal to passing lowers point). The
wippen post pinning should have some resistance without the spring.
Some resistance is just enough to feel but not enough to let it swing
freely.
3. Check the backcheck height. On most S&Ss it is too high. It should
be below the chank at rest and below the tail at it's highist point.
4. Tail radious should be in the three to four inch range.
If these are in range then geometry, capstan location or knuckle
location can be the cause. Compare old shanks to new for knuckle size
and location.
