---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Allen, et al, At the risk of offense, using any kind of electronic "thingy" back there is asking for ridicule and trouble. While I _totally_ agree with _at least_ 8 sec. sustain, that level of reductive analysis is simply misunderstood by too many technicians, let alone pianists, let alone sales folk. There are too many other variables. Yes, we are all aware of them, but would one willingly want to introduce all that mischagas into what is already a pretty thick stew? Point - I remember an incident, now sufficiently ancient so as to avoid identification, in which a very well known technician went along on such a trip, and, looking for crown (in all the right places), found none, or zero, on over a dozen instruments. By the time the engineers, technicians and sales denizens got through, the poor schmuck had practically no credibility with his faculty any more. (No, it wasn't me - but, it might have been.) So - My money is on reading a good book, over Latté and cheesecake...Perhaps a (noon-time) stroll through Central Park. Hmmm - now that I think of it, if, having left the Hall, you turn left, and then, left again at the first corner (Wolff's Deli), about 2 or 3 doors down, you will find very first rate Chinese. See - you don't have to waste all that time on three-legged Steinways. Regards!
