This is normal procedure for all dampers. Often I have to cut the
center further to get the dampers to spread enough to mute the outer
strings.  I trim the  ends at an angle, to the inside, so the felt
will be self spreading when it comes down.

I like Yamaha felt which you can get from Schaff.

I have not used Pianotek's felts.
