Is the school obliged to PURCHASE any of these loaner instruments at the end of the school year? John Minor University of Illinois We have had a Yamaha loan program for several years at USM. Two years ago Yamaha wanted to add as part of the contract that USM purchase some pianos. The Attorney at the school said there is no way that a state institution could purchase any instruments without going through the proper biding procedures. Yamaha backed off. The program has been very useful at our school there is no way that you can turn down free use of pianos especially when the school gets a percentage of the sale proceeds. Advantages 1. Good pianos 2. More pianos 3. Money from the Sale 4. Piano dealer sales more pianos 5. Customers get a good deal 6. Students enjoy playing new pianos Disadvantages 1. Replacement Pianos may not come in on time 2. More tuning required 3. Dealer may not help move your pianos 4. Dealer may not help put benches together 5. Vandalism, I'm more concerned about the pianos being damaged 6. Expect for Clavinova keyboards to start showing up on the scene If you have other questions please contact me at lonnie.young@usm.edu Lonnie Young University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg, MS
