Chickering Brass Flanges

Hi Michael,

A table saw is the best tool for narrowing shanks. Make a jig to
shave a few thousands off each side (two passes). The saw will trim
both the wood and the knuckle very cleanly provided you have a sharp
blade.

I am not sure where you can find shanks like those. Chickering was
such a contrary SOB, making so much work for us down the line.

Maybe a set of flanges cut the right length and a set of shanks
shortened the same amount with a grove cut in each for a spline...
Real precision work but it can be done.

Brass parts can be made by a machinist locally.

Or you can contact Jack Wyatt who seems to have all that junk laying
around.

Lots of luck with this one.

PS You will be modifying and making new tools for this job so get all
the machinery warmed up.
