> Conrad, > > Just curious. How do you levy the fines? Can they actually be collected? > You're at a private college (isn't it?) so maybe it's easier than it > would be at a state university. > > Avery > >> We strenuously DO NOT have machines in the building. Diva bottles are bad >> enough. >> >> last fall, I got this in effect: >> >>> First offense - $15, subsequent - $50. >> >> > Avery, Ron, Conrad, & list At UW we have levied fines, however a more effective method is to restrict practice room access. We have a computer record of student useage of who is in the practice room. You need to be hard-assed, but the administration also need to follow your lead and put teeth into the restrictions and warnings about food & beverage. Vending machines are located in the practice area. The facilities coordinator, my student workers, my self all do a 'rambo' runs to see what's for lunch. This time of year when students return and are fresh is most effective time to stress these restrictions. Ageless problem. At various times we have removed the action from the piano or locked the rooms of the offended pianos. Practice rooms become more respected after an unplanned maintenance session. Joel -- Joel A.
