Greg, One idea I didn't see expressed is having guides mounted to the floor, guiding the legs rather than the sides. This is what I use, for pianos on dollies. The guides actually only guide the dollie. Made from 4 x 4's or 6 x 6's, with sheet metal lining the inside. A pair for the back leg, tapering from fairly wide to just enough wider to allow casters to swivel at the back. And a pair to catch the outside of the front legs. Works quite well.
