Dear Friends -
Newton, may you rest in peace. Never did another deserve it more. We will
miss your wit and wisdom, just as we continue to live and work better for
them. You have left the world a better place. May we do the same.
My friendship with Newton goes back to 1971, I think. We've had many good
times together, mostly at PTG conventions in the early days, then
increasingly by phone and the 'net in recent times. He was always among the
most active and vocal among the College and University Technicians. I deeply
appreciated his input to the CAUT Committee during its formative years, and
especially during the development of the Guidelines for Institutional Piano
Maintenance.
Every piano technician who knew Newton finds herself or himself in his debt
for some insight or technical help. Those who didn't have the pleasure of
his company on their professional journey will nevertheless benefit from the
legacy he leaves with us all.
Newton, it has been so good to know you!
