Hello Ray, Richard Goode is a fabulous pianist whose main concerns are voicing, voicing and voicing. He dislikes the hard, monochromatic sounds that are often heard these days, and likes a wide ranging color pallette. When he was here, at one point after he had been practicing for several hours I approached and suggested it was time to touch up unisons, etc. He seemed unconcerned and said in a dreamy sort of way, "I don't notice that-- I just notice the voicing". (Fortunately we have an S&S D that I keep ready in a more "traditional" Steinway sound with plenty of power but less "bite" unless pushed a bit, so he was very happy). Good regulation of course, but a round, balanced sound is what he appreciates. You might want to let him pick his instrument if you have choices there-- save yourself some work. Other than that, he's great to work with-- modest to a fault, and absent-minded in an amusing, bumbly sort of way; but when he plays Schubert or Beethoven it's like entering another world. Good luck.
