Tuning Steinway Verticals

Ya,  I tried to tune one of the one time,  that was all I needed to do.  What 
really warps me is that they had it so right at one time.  I have a couple of 
pre-1900 Steinway uprights that tune like dream-boats!!!  Where did they go 
wrong??
